Lastovo Island Tour: Part 2

Lučica bay

Lučica Bay is of cultural significance to the Republic of Croatia as it is the last preserved example of abaroque fishermen's village. Fishermen built these houses in the 17th century as shelter from storms. They were also places to deposit and dry fishing equipment and store fishing boats. A small community still live in these old houses and it is a great place to check out Lastovo's old architecture.

According legend, the Gods had an ongoing debate about which island was the most beautiful, Mljet, Korcula or Lastovo. Zeus desperately needed an answer to settle this argument and decided to send an envoy to discover which was in fact the most beautiful. The envoy, after visiting each island, was at a loss and still had no answer for them. Zeus grew restless with no answer, and he had failed his mission. Zeus decided to turn his envoy into a rock for his failure to decide, he then became a beautiful island himself, the island of Glavat.

The light house of Glavat

Glavat light house was built in 1888 and used to house four families who lived on the Island as lighthouse keepers. The old furnishings can still be seen in the light house such as the windowsills and sinks.

Currently there are two light house keepers of Galvat, they alternate monthy. This means there is only one resident of Glavat island at any given time.
